Did you know that around 90% of the land here in East Yorkshire is dedicated to agriculture? Farming is the lifeblood of our community, and agricultural shows are a staple of local life. These events play a crucial role in boosting the local economy, promoting rural tourism, and fostering a deeper understanding of food and farming.
At Hog Roast Barmston, we are passionate about supporting local farms and rely on award-winning farmers to supply us with the premium-quality ingredients we use to create our mouth-watering dishes. So, whenever we catch wind of an agricultural show nearby, you can bet we’re always eager to attend!
Lucky for us, we had the chance to attend one of these fantastic events last week, and we were thrilled to see a massive turnout! The farm hosting the event was buzzing with activity all day long, offering plenty to keep everyone entertained. Guests enjoyed brass bands, ferret racing, horse and pony classes, gundogs, vintage tractors, and shows throughout the day. The petting zoo, featuring sheep, donkeys, cows, goats, and rabbits, was a hit with visitors of all ages.
As for the food —our favourite part of these events – guests were truly spoiled for choice! Those with a sweet tooth were delighted by homemade ice cream and candyfloss, while savoury lovers swooned over the variety of delicious grub on offer.
Hog Roast Barmston’s slow-roasted hog was a core attraction. Featuring juicy pulled pork served on gluten-free and wholemeal baps with homemade sage and onion stuffing, applesauce, and crispy crackling, it was a flavour explosion! Vegetarians and vegans were equally delighted with our BBQ-pulled jackfruit rolls, bursting with hickory goodness and topped with plant-based coleslaw.
The atmosphere was electric, with everyone coming together to celebrate the local farming community. Hog Roast Barmston had an absolute blast, meeting so many interesting people and hearing wonderful feedback about our classic hog roast.
Hog Roast Barmston had such a great time that we’re already counting down the days until the next event, where we can continue sharing our love for local, high-quality food and celebrating the incredible farming heritage of East Yorkshire. Until then, we’ll keep perfecting our recipes and supporting the farmers who make it all possible!
